Weatherproof Vehicle Displays

We design and deliver electronic advertising and info solutions that can be placed in vehicles. Our special skills covers difficult conditions such as heat, frost, humidity, dust, vibration, bright light and shocks. The background system and screens communicate wirelessly or over broadband. We can build multi-screen solutions and integrate additional devices, such as switches, GPS sensors, motion detectors, machine vision cameras, etc.

Example of our communication and passenger information systems:

  • i.MX8 QuadMax CPU with QT application platform
  • Widescreen 28”, 36” or 48”, 16:3 HD resolution LCD
  • Optional eSIM LTE modem, WiFi and GNSS
  • Dual Daisy-Chain Switched Ethernet with bypass relays
  • Ethernet over PowerLine
  • 8-36VDC or 110VDC power supply

We produce ready-to-use solutions for immediate presentation of content and interactive communication.

DG-PID21-R 21.5”

DG-PID21-R is a rugged purpose-built stand-alone IP connected Intelligent Passenger Information Display for bus applications which require high service reliability and easy integration with other in-vehicle systems. The PID21-R bases on a low power i.MX8 CPU which can include Duragon’s proprietary firmware or third party PID-system Client Software. The intelligent display can deliver media content combining video, animations with static or changing images on the HD resolution display. Route and operational service information can be combined with advertising content. Ethernet is used for integration with other onboard systems. Display content is not streamed over Ethernet, only control information is sent over the network. Media is stored in the PID21-R and it can be updated over the Ethernet backbone. The internal Ethernet switch with its two external ports, enables the connection of multiple PID21-R displays in series. In case there is a HW or other internal failure, the bypass relays will automatically disengage a faulty device from the Ethernet network.

Functionality is optimized in the PID21-R intelligent display. A high brightness and contrast LCD display supports full HD resolution. The internal single control board includes a i.MX8 CPU, supervised by a microcontroller which manages all the display’s functionality including safe power on-off, secure booting, backlight brightness, temperature monitoring and event logging. The integrated widerange railway grade power supply can reliably directly connect to a 24VDC nominal power supply.

Our design approach reduces lifecycle costs and migration challenges. The technology of the PID21-R is based on commercial standards, Industrial-Grade components and a design leveraging 20+ years of paradigm experience in vehicle systems design.

DG-EL1696-P5B

The DG-EL1696-P5B is a rugged LED passenger information display targeting bus installations. This display is purpose-built with protected and EMC filtered RS-485 and CAN 2.0 interfaces and an automotive grade power supply, which can directly connect to the vehicle’s 24VDC battery system. The electronics of the display is full SMD to increase mechanical reliability. The display is based on a 32-bit CORTEX-M3 microcontroller with dedicated firmware, which can be customized to meet the specific requirement of each project, including custom graphics elements and language support. Error and diagnostic codes are available to monitor the health of the display and its correct operation. Constant current LED sink drivers are used to drive high brightness SMD LED components to increase the optical performance and ruggedness of the display. The LED matrix brightness can be adjusted from 0 to 100% under software control or automatically adjusting to daylight conditions. The brightness of the LEDs is thermally throttled to protect components at high ambient temperatures. The display base is black for improving contrast. The LED area is covered by a tamper proof safety glass. The LED display is based on boards which include 16 x 32 LEDs, the master board connects to the slave boards with board-to-board connectors. This modular approach enables the adaptation to different LED matrix sizes. Each board has its own local tightly regulated power supply for improved power distribution. The RS-485 interface or CAN 2.0 interface can be used for host communication using a HEX-format based protocol for commands and controls. The host can interrogate display status including supply voltage, internal temperature, ambient light level as well as the diagnostic status of individual LEDs is the complete matrix. A LED diagnostic check is performed when power is applied to the display.

Our design approach reduces lifecycle costs and migration challenges. The technology of the DG-EL1696-P5B is based on commercial standards using Industrial-Grade components and design principles leveraging 20+ years of systems design paradigm experience in bus and automotive installations.
